Field Technician

Department: Public Lands Planning & Management
Location: White River Junction, VT

RSG seeks Field Technicians to assist our Public Lands Planning and Management group with visitor use and social science research in National Parks this spring, summer and fall.

You work alongside Ph.D. and Masterís level researchers to assist with social science research and data collection in National Parks and similar federal public lands. This work helps the National Park Service and other agencies measure and manage visitor use in national parks and public lands. You engage in multiple steps in the social science research process, which could include: deploying, maintaining, and downloading data from automated trail counters, tracking visitor use patterns with GPS devices, conducting unobtrusive observations of visitor use volumes and behaviors, administering surveys to park visitors, and recording parking, vehicle, traffic, and/or other types of transportation data. In addition to field research experience, team members will also gain valuable experience with a nationally-recognized research consulting firm, providing a look into private sector career paths in the parks and protected areas of management, as well as knowledge of visitor use management and capacity planning.

As a member of the team, you are a team player who is organized, detail-oriented, and interested in improving public lands management and helping our clients.
